To examine variants in genes which may be associated with risk of developing male breast cancer.
The design will be a population-based case-control study. Cases are males with a diagnosis of breast cancer. Controls will be matched on year of birth, ethnicity, and geographic locale. For both cases and controls, approximately 10 micrograms of DNA, data on family history and a questionnaire is required. The questionnaire will be sent to those who have indicated to participate. For the cases, if you know the BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutation-status that would be helpful. Otherwise mutation screening can be performed by the coordinating center.
Initial genes to be examined for association study:
Please send your fax number to Susan Neuhausen if you are interested in participating in this study. She will send you the male breast cancer questionnaire. Ideally, please send samples by However, samples can be sent beyond that date as you receive them. Genotyping will be done at by Susan at the University of Utah in order to ensure consistency in allele calling. Alternatively, you can perform your own genotyping, in which case you will receive some control DNA from Susan.
As always, publications will include all contributors.
